Help break language barriers that prevent people from accessing aid
Here in Wenatchee and throughout the valley, we’ve been hard-hit by wildfires two summers in a row. In the last few weeks we’ve been forced to confront a frightening reality: Wildfire season is already upon us. As we move into summer, it’s important to remember it’s never too early to prepare.
The American Red Cross is also getting prepared. Yet to be most effective in our mission to deliver aid and assistance we need the support of our local Hispanic community and Spanish-speaking volunteers. By volunteering and putting your Spanish language skills to use, you are the critical link that connects a disaster-impacted family to help when they need it most.
When fires force neighbors to leave their homes, the Red Cross provides a safe place to stay, food and health support to all. Red Cross evacuation shelters welcome anyone affected by wildfires who needs help and, most important, assistance is available regardless of citizenship status.
Together with more Spanish-speaking volunteers, we can strengthen our community. Together, we can break language barriers that prevent people from accessing aid. Together, we can ensure that anyone facing such a crisis receives the help they need.

Aquí en Wenatchee y en todo el valle, hemos sido afectados por incendios forestales dos veranos consecutivos. En las últimas semanas nos hemos visto obligados a enfrentar una realidad aterradora: la temporada de incendios forestales ya está aquí. A medida que avanzamos hacia el verano, es importante recordar que nunca es demasiado temprano para prepararse.
La Cruz Roja Americana también se está preparando. Sin embargo, para ser más eficaces en nuestra misión de ofrecer ayuda y asistencia necesitamos el apoyo de nuestra comunidad de habla hispana. Mediante el voluntariado y al poner sus conocimientos bilingües, usted es el enlace crítico que conecta una familia con La Cruz Roja durante un desastre cuando más lo necesitan.
Cuando los incendios obligan a los vecinos a abandonar sus hogares, la Cruz Roja ofrece un lugar seguro donde quedarse, alimentos y apoyo para todos. Los refugios de la Cruz Roja durante las evacuaciones dan siempre la bienvenida a cualquier persona afectada por los incendios forestales que necesita ayuda y, lo más importante, la asistencia está disponible independientemente de su condición legal.
Junto con más voluntarios de habla española, podemos fortalecer nuestra comunidad. Juntos, podemos romper las barreras lingüísticas que impiden que las personas accedan a la ayuda. Juntos, podemos asegurar que cualquier persona que enfrenta una crisis así recibe la ayuda que necesitan.
