Editors note: Since this story published on our blog in 2013, the Holiday Mail for Heroes Program has changed as the numbers of troops deployed overseas has drastically reduced. We can still accept a small number of cards here in Washington. Please send them to American Red Cross, c/o Service to Armed Forces, 1900 25th Ave S. Seattle. WA 98144.
The cards will be given to service members on Joint Base Lewis-McChord and in the VA hospitals. Thanks again.

The American Red Cross Western Washington Chapters is embarking on its annual Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign, sending holiday cards to service members and veterans, both locally and abroad. Service members, veterans and their families will receive cards across the country and around the world.Image

Starting September 30, we began hosting “Holiday Mail Workshops” around the Puget Sound area where American Red Cross volunteers will staff booths and invite community members to write messages of thanks and support to our troops. Western Washington Red Cross volunteers will sort and deliver the cards throughout the holiday season.

Our Mount Rainier Chapter is celebrating its 80th anniversary with the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign. Girl Scouts, Red Cross volunteers and local individuals are holding events in the Mount Rainier area to help our efforts. The Tiffany Circle of King and Kitsap Counties, a group of women leaders and philanthropists who support the Red Cross, will hold a card making event to show their support of our nation’s veterans, troops and military families.

All you need is a piece of paper and a pen! Please send card to:
