I first started volunteering for the Red Cross when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.
There was a shortage of Red Cross volunteers, I was a nurse, and I wanted to help.
I keep volunteering because of the people I meet and because of the opportunity it provides to use my skills as a nurse practitioner.
I review new volunteer applications and help people in shelters get medications that were lost.
The schedule is flexible so I can easily balance volunteering with work and home life.
I love helping others and hope I make a positive impact on others, especially in their time of need.
